APRIL 21st, 2011, 11:40 AM: A man broods in the glow of his dials. Only his moustache can be seen; it spreads out like the wings of a condor.
A RED lightbulb flashes in time with earsplitting sirens, casting a harsh light on the hard line of his jaw. A man in uniform bursts in.
"Sir! Colonel, sir! We have the SOS from one of our fleet in the Kuiper Belt. It's a library ship, sir - the Starship Flybrary. Orders!"
THE COLONEL paused to smooth the birdlike feathers of his moustache. "In the Kuiper Belt?" he asked. "Sir, yes sir," came the reply.
"Must be my old friend Captain Makemake. Didn't know he was still alive," the colonel said. "Ready the killer whales. We leave immediately."
